A History of the North River and the 89th Society Meeting

Kezia a Staff member at the North & South Rivers Watershed Association will present an overview of the North River’s history, beginning in pre-Colonial times, and extending through the 20th century. Topics will include early settlers on the river; ferries and bridges; milling and manufacturing, and the shipbuilding era, along with salt haying, Two Mile, the Portland Gale and the impact of the construction of Route 3. She will also offer a brief introduction to the North & South Rivers Watershed Association (NSRWA), and its 50+ years of advocacy on behalf of the rivers.
Bio: Kezia (pronounced Kee-za) Bacon fell in love with the North and South Rivers as a teenager and began researching and writing about them while at Hampshire College. On the staff of the North & South Rivers Watershed Association since 1993, she writes a monthly Nature column for the organization and also manages the Get Outdoors section of their website. A Marshfield resident since 1972, Kezia is also a wedding officiant and a yoga teacher.
